The Friends of the UNB Woodlot are pressing the University of New Brunswick administration for a moratorium on development of the UNB Woodlot Forest. UNB's current development strategy - starting with Big Box retail on these university lands - will effectively destroy any meaningful wildlife spaces, areas for student labs and tree research, and quiet spaces for the public to hike.

Great universities across North America boast of their Research and Teaching Forests. For example: UNB WOODLOT; McGILL's GAULT NATURE RESERVE; HARVARD FOREST; STANFORD's JASPER RIDGE ECOLOGICAL PRESERVE; INDIANA UNIVERSITY RESEARCH AND TEACHING PRESERVE ; McGILL’s MORGAN ARBORETUM; McGILL's MOLSON RESERVE.
